-BagGlobe-
At home the plastic bags are bulging out of the cupboards. And at the store, you've forgotten your bag once again and you have to buy a new one. The "BagGlobe" is a brilliant and yet simple recycling initiative that strides against unnecessary plastic usage. A 'BagGlobe' in every supermarket, where you can dispose your extra plastic bags as well as where you grab one when you have forgotten yours. This initiative can save over more than 40 million plastic bags a year in The Netherlands. And The Netherlands is only a small country! Caroli Buitenhuis, event organiser and mother of two young children, came up with this idea standing in the supermarket, agitated because she again forgot her shoppingbag, while her cupboard at home was bulging out of plastic bags. Last year on Sustainable Tuesday, the experiment with the BagGlobe (TassenBol) started in 5 supermarkets. This experiment was needed to find out if the concept would work. There has been an independent research afterwards and the conclusion was that this initiative has sensational results for the environment and environmental awareness amongst consumers. But now the implementation in the supermarkets has to start. Because this is a citizen-initiative I don´t get paid and I don´t earn anything on this project. So I have to work on other projects to earn a salary and finance this project. Finding out everything by myself it takes a lot of time. Think of design, finance, production, handling, transport, storing, sales, pr/marketing, coordination etc. So, as long as the BagGlobe is not implemented by the supermarkets, it is still just an idea!
